This educational and extremely entertaining presentation will provide a basic knowledge and understanding of how electricity is produced, delivered to the home and subsequently used.   Joe will provide demonstrations of how various electrical systems actually can cause fires.  He will also cover some items to look for in identifying what might have prevented such fires.

Speaker

With over 30 years of experience, Mr.  Nowikowski has a diverse background in electrical engineering, construction and management in the private sector and also in the public sector where he served as an Officer in the United States Air Force. He is a Professional Engineer in 15 states as well as a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator and a Certified Vehicle Fire Investigator. In addition to his business experience, he is a part time college Instructor where he serves as the Lead Faculty Area Chair of the Mathematics Department.

Mr. Nowikowski’s forensic engineering experience includes residential & commercial wiring, medium voltage substations, residential and commercial kitchen appliances, battery operated vehicles and devices, traffic signals, lighting, laundry appliances, electrical aquarium components, power taps, printed circuit board, portable generators, variable frequency drives, batteries, HVAC units, underground wiring, bathroom ventilation fans, and service entrance sections, high-end home automation systems. He has experience in industrial, commercial and residential fire and explosion scene examinations and has also performed vehicle fire analysis on recreational vehicles, boats, farm equipment, forklifts, and passenger cars. In addition, he has investigated fatalities and injuries related to electrical energy.
