Alaska National, a CopperPoint Company, has an exciting opening for a Supervisor in our Commercial Property and Casualty Claims Department. The Supervisor will manage a team of claims adjusters and assistants handling auto, general liability, property, and inland marine claims in Alaska and the Southwest Region. The Supervisor will also collaborate with internal stakeholders, external partners, and policyholders to achieve desired business results, build long term relationships, and ensure customer satisfaction.
Job Responsibilities:
- Supervise and manage a team of claims adjusters and assistants to ensure work product meets standards for accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and compliance.
- Recruit, hire, develop, and retain staff with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to ensure optimal performance and results, including providing 1:1 training, organizing team roundtables, identifying continuing education opportunities, and fostering team engagement.
- Analyze claims data to understand department performance and areas for improvement. Work with management in forecasting claims trends and achieving best practices outcomes.
- Establish and maintain appropriate staffing levels to meet team needs and performance/target goals, including participation in the recruitment and hiring process and in the performance management process.
- Support team members in achieving their established annual performance goals.
- Periodic review of pending claims to ensure claims handling complies with internal guidelines and best practices.
- Provide prompt and professional responses to requests from policyholders and brokers.
- Assess actual damages, negotiate loss settlements, and attend hearings and mediations as needed.
- Collaborate with internal partners, including loss control and underwriting, to help achieve overall business success.
- Work with data management team to improve the existing electronic claim system and provide input toward the potential migration to a new claim system.
- Organize, supervise, and participate in large insured account claims’ reviews and underwriting account renewal reviews.
- Plan, prepare, and lead claim review meetings large accounts, explaining the status of open claims and answering policyholder questions and concerns.
- Hybrid work arrangement of 2 days in-office, 3 days remote work.
- Select, manage, and direct outside vendors.
Qualifications/Competencies:
- Bachelors’ college degree required. Strong preference for candidates who have obtained or are working towards insurance industry designations (e.g., CPCU, AIC, SCLA).
- 8+ years of experience in insurance claims required, including experience with bodily injury and property damage auto claims. Strong preference for prior experience in handling and negotiating litigated claims.
- Strong preference for prior experience in multiple commercial property & casualty lines of business such as auto, property, general liability, inland marine, crime, and builders risk. Prior experience handling construction claims is a plus.
- Prior supervisory/managerial experience and leadership experience in a team-based environment is preferred.
- Prior experience with claims in Alaska and Arizona is preferred. Experience with claims in California, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado, and/or Texas is a plus.
- Superb communication skills required, including ability to run meetings and make presentations to internal stakeholders, external partners, and policyholders.
- Excellent writing skills preferred, including ability to draft general correspondence, coverage letters, written reports, meeting materials, and presentation materials.
- Excellent interpersonal skills required, including the ability to work well with all levels of the company and the ability to develop relationships internally and externally.
- Proven ability to work independently and remotely, as needed, in a team environment.
- Ability to manage organizational change, to maintain a systematic perspective, and to involve and influence others to accept new ideas or approaches.
- Excellent organizational skills to manage the demands of the position and to ensure deadlines are met.
- Ability to plan, forecast, and set objectives and determine best course of action.
- Ability to delegate and supervise critical claims tasks.
- Ability to develop, implement and supervise innovative solutions to emerging claims challenges.
Salary Range:
- $95,000.00 – $130,000.00 annually
- Compensation may vary depending on skills, experience, education, and geographical location.
- In addition to base salary, compensation may include an annual discretionary bonus.
